The
BIG winner for the 5th Annual
Diamond Classic Derby was Mike
Walker
(aka
Commander McBragg to his fellow
anglers), who caught and
released a 60" Sturgeon
(fishing on the Lucky Dorsett) to win
the 1st place prize of
$3,027.50. In addition, he was
the proud recipient of a
beautiful first place trophy
created by Sean Treacy of Custom
Cut Critters. 2011
entrants into the
Derby totaled 346 anglers
(@25.00) which brought the
total prize money for
seven places to
$8,650.00, 100% of which
was paid to the 7
winning anglers. A
total of 28 legal-sized
(and two oversized) Sturgeon were caught and
released which earned the
anglers a ticket in the drawing
for the prize money.
In addition to the adult
anglers, there were 56 kids who
fished for free in the Kid's
Division, 12 of the kids won prizes,
and the top prize in the Kid's
Division was a custom Rod from
Ventura Rod & Lure Co and Avet reel
went to John Hise (age
13).
All other kids each received
a goody bag, so they were all
winners.
Entry fee is $25. 100% of
the entry fees are paid in cash
prizes (1st place
through 7th
place). Additional
prizes awarded at the Pre-Derby
Seminar (see details below) and
at Weigh-In are courtesy of our
sponsors.
All
entries/registrations must be
submitted in person and paid in
cash at one of the two
official locations: Martinez Bait & Tackle
(Deadline is
4:00 pm
January 28, 2011) and
at
Castro Valley Sportsmen Center
(Deadline is 5:00 pm
January 26, 2011).
Special
Kids Division - Free Entry!
Featuring Special Kids
Division (under 16)
The
goal of the Kids Division is to
teach children that fishing can
be fun
and that it is also fun and good
to release fish. Kids
registration is
FREE and all they have to do
to be entered into the Kids
Division drawing is
to catch and release any fish
(any species, any size). We will draw names from a
hat full of all the kids’ names
that released a fish for the
prizes.
With the help from our sponsors
and supporters there will be
enough prizes so that every kid
goes home with something!
We do our best to make sure that
the kids have a great time and
learn something about our
fishery.
